Barbara's obituary

Mrs. Barbara Jean (Pennington) Lubas, of Des Plaines, Illinois, born on July 31, 1944 in Crystal Lake, Illinois, to the late Catherine and the late Warren, passed away at age 73 on May 6, 2018 in Cloquet, Minnesota. Her last job was in the Shipping industry at Great Lakes Fleet in Duluth, Minnesota as a Human Resources Specialist until retiring in 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Elon; former wife of Frank. She was preceded in death by her sister, Anne; and nephew, Danny Fischer. Barbara is survived by her son, Mark; daughter, Amy; brother, Leslie; sisters, Patricia and Kathryn; nieces, Kathy Hailman, Jo Ann Kanka Lazzerini, Jennifer Pennington Padget, Sarah Pennington McManus, and Jill Kahler Ritchie; and nephews, Jim Kanka, Jon Kanka, Joel Pennington, Peter Kahler, Shawn Fischer, Michael Fischer, and Steve Lester. She also leaves behind her greatly loved cats; Blackjack, Callie, Fluffo, Mitty, Speedy and Smoky. She had a passion for boating, bowling, camping, cooking, fitness, hiking, homemaking and listening to music. She was an involved member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for a number of years. Special thanks to the staff of St. Luke’s Hospice who were kind and compassionate to Barbara and her visiting family and friends and went above and beyond their calling. Friends and family are welcome to attend a public memorial service at Friendship Park Conservatory, 395 W. Algonquin Rd, Des Plaines, IL on Sunday, July 8th from 12-3pm. Atkins-Northland Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cloquet, MN handled the cremation.
