Barbara's obituary
BARBARA ANN (HIGGINBOTHAM) GEORGE, 79, passed away on February 26, 2022, surrounded by her children, after a brief bout with cancer. Barbara was born on November 12, 1942, in Houston, Texas to Oliver “Polly” Percy Higginbotham and Frances Nadine (Cobb) Higginbotham. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Vera Nadine (Higginbotham) Bryan, as well as her husband. She is survived by her three children, sons Jeff Marshall and Christopher George and daughter, Samantha (George) Drummond, along with their spouses and children.
Barbara graduated from Reagan High School in 1960 where she was a member of the Regan Red Coats and she kept in touch with her Red Coat family until her passing. She attended Baylor University in Waco, TX; University of Texas in Arlington, TX; Cal-Poly in Pomona, CA; and University of California in Los Angeles, CA and Lancaster, CA, where she earned enough college credits for two degrees. Barbara worked as a Contract Specialist for the U.S. Government for over 30 years before retiring. She loved her job and was proud to have worked on projects like the B2 Bomber, SR-71 Blackbird and Skunkworks. Her career moved her between Texas, Hawaii, Mississippi, and California but she was able to return to Texas before retiring. After her husband passed away in 1995, she grew tired of retirement and went back to work at Lockheed Martin in League City, TX and then Flour Daniels in Sugar Land, TX until she retired for good in 2010. Barbara loved water skiing, camping and traveling. She spent many weekends on the lake or somewhere camping. She was thrilled to be able to visit friends in Australia and tour China with her mom. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing bunco with the Bunco Brats, hosting get togethers, shopping until she (or you) dropped, working on projects around her house and helping her children with their projects. She was independent and headstrong, but also very loving and kind. She was quick witted, and she was a wealth of knowledge; if she didn’t know the answer, she would find out. She is deeply missed by her family and friends.
