I am just reading about this for the first time and I am totally shocked. I lost touch with Ashton in the last couple years but he was such a sweetheart. My heart hurts to find this out ❤️

I worked with Ashton in Northern Alberta. Also being a Cape Bretoner we had lots to talk about. He was a great person and co-worker. Sending strength for his friends and family.

As a child, I had the opportunity to attend Bible camp one year with my cousin Ashton, and it was an adventure I'll never forget. I'm pouring over silly photos we took with the disposable cameras the family sent along with us :P He was a constant, dear companion and never denounced my more outrageous behavior- from pranking counselors, to girl drama, to the fist fighting; Ashton made sure to stay close that week, despite my constant effort to make enemies, and frustrate authority. Ashton by contrast couldn't have been more kind and agreeable, but we shared a lot of laughs and a deep sense of love. As children and into adulthood we shared many moments precious to me. I will never forget his playful sense of humor and the gentle compassion he shared with everyone he encountered; especially his family. To those who shared closely his final months, you are truly blessed.

Heartfelt condolences to all of Ashton’s friends and family. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ashton in culinary school and becoming good friends. A few years later I got to spend a season with him at the Inn at Bay Fortune where we sweat and grinded in that kitchen all summer, putting out some amazing food and making memories that I’ll hold dear my entire life. I’m very sad to hear of his passing. He was an absolutely wonderful human being.

My thoughts are with you all as you go through this difficult time of transition.
I first met Ashton in Edmonton. We instantly bonded over great, not good, food, music and trying to live life on life's terms. I will miss our talks, his wisdom, his kind spirit and the way he could always twist things to make someone laugh, even if it was at themselves.
My favourite Ashton memory was this crazy cold December day, near Christmas, walking through the legislature, looking at the lights together. We were discussing his upcoming job offer with Civeo, and we turned this talk into a moving ad hoc musical under the stars.
Ashton knew how to live. He taught me much about kindness, about grace and about friendship.
I will miss him but I know he lives on in all of us. In our memories and in all the many ways he has changed us all for the better. Because he was that guy who changed people for the better.
Rest in power Ashton. Xx.

Sandy, Evan, Allistaire, Ann, Bob and families,
I send love and more love. Due to the change of date I wasn’t able to attend the funeral of Ashton. I have been told by many that it was rained upon with mountains of love. For that I am happy. Love is what holds us together. May Ashton know peace.
