Anthony Welch, known as Tony by his friends and family, was born in California on August 22,1946 to Opal (maiden name Chambers) and Cecil Welch. He grew up in China Lake, California on a Navy base with his younger sisters, Linda and Terry. Tony grew up to love reading, live music, plays, and camping. He worked over 30 years as an elementary and middle school teacher until he retired in 2007 and loved it, especially teaching 6th grade math where he was often a favorite of the students. He married the love of his life Marian (maiden name Melemed) whom he met in Santa Barbara at a Shakey’s Pizza and they lived more than 51 happy years together. They had three children Lisa, Nicole, and Jackie that they raised in Diamond Bar, California. They went on many fun camping trips together with some of Tony and Marian’s best friends and he traveled to many beautiful places with Marian. He was an avid reader, and would sometimes read 5 books in a week. He enjoyed watching the Dodgers as well as Jeopardy. He loved being a grandfather to Lisa’s daughter, Jolene and they had a ton of fun together. They would conduct experiments, play fun and silly games and loved to go to the park together. Tony was funny, kind hearted and loved by many. During his last week of life, he was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. They reminisced, laughed, cried, and listened to music. Before he passed he said he had lived a good life and that he had no regrets. He died peacefully at home on the morning of January 18th, 2023 and will be greatly missed by many.
