Manning Family,
I hope this message finds you surrounded by loved ones during this difficult time. I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my dear friend, Anthony, also known as Pretty Tony and Maniac. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Growing up together in Red Springs, North Carolina, and spending some time in Brooklyn, New York, Anthony and I shared countless memories and formed an unbreakable bond. He had a charm about him that captivated everyone he met, especially the ladies, earning him the nickname Pretty Tony. I can still envision him, impeccably dressed, with his stylish waves and clean sneakers, always ready to make a lasting impression.
One particular memory that stands out is our time together in Brooklyn. I remember the day we hopped into a cab, and as we approached our destination, Anthony suddenly flung the door open and yelled, "Run!" In a state of shock and confusion, I followed suit, running as fast as I could, not knowing where we were headed. When we finally caught up with each other, he pulled out a pocket full of money, laughing heartily, explaining that he just wanted me to experience the hustle and bustle of the city. That was Anthony—always finding a way to inject excitement and adventure into our lives.
Another cherished memory is when Anthony proudly introduced me to seemingly everyone at NC A&T, along with the homeboys from Red Springs. He treated me like a brother, showing me around campus and making sure I felt welcomed. We attended a lively 2a-6a party together, and I'll never forget how Anthony's charm attracted a crowd of enthusiastic female friends around us. However, when some individuals took issue with the attention, a brawl erupted unexpectedly. Without hesitation, Anthony started swinging (he wasn’t much on words especially in the face of danger). Together, we made our escape across campus, with me blindly following his lead. When we finally arrived at the safety of an off-campus girlfriend's house, he couldn't help but laugh uproariously, that was the Maniac I mentioned earlier.
Anthony was truly a remarkable friend, always bringing joy and excitement wherever he went. His vibrant personality and genuine care for others made him a cherished presence in our lives. The memories we created together will forever be etched in my heart, serving as a testament to the wonderful person he was.
During this time of grieving, I hope you find solace in the memories and love Anthony shared with us. His spirit will live on in our hearts, and though we mourn his loss, we can take comfort in knowing that he made a lasting impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Thankfully, our last words together were "I love You."
Never Forgotten...
