I was in two of Anne Marie's undergraduate courses. She knew the names of every student in class. She didn't lecture. She walked around, up and down, asking us questions. And then we'd all discuss it. Her passion for teaching was effusive. It was a privilege to be in her class.
My sincere condolences to Anne Marie's family and friends.  She was one of the kindest people that I've had the privilege of meeting at Dal.  She would go above and beyond to make people feel valued and respected.  Her leadership and her smile will be greatly missed by everyone that was lucky enough to have known her.
My deepest sympathies to the Ryan family on the loss of Anne Marie. She was a beautiful soul and I pray you take comfort in knowing Anne Marie lived her best life and contributed greatly to her students and higher education more broadly. Anne Marie always presented with a smile and kind and gentle words. This is a great loss to the Dalhousie community.

To Bob, Fiona, Kerrianne, Erin and all the Ryan and O’Beirne families. Our sincerest condolences to you all. This is such devastating news. The beautiful obituary captures her many attributes so well. The whole geo-community is in shock, as if one of its fundamental pillars has been taken away. A brilliant, inspiring teacher and a wonderful, generous person. It is clear from many of the heart-felt messages, especially from her former students, that all the great deeds she has done throughout her career have had, and will continue to have, an enormous positive influence on so many lives.    Suaimhneas síoraí, Mia

Bob,

I was shocked to hear about Anne Marie's passing. I know what it is like to lose your partner; it has been over eight years since June passed.  I feel for you man. All I can say is that you need to carry on; the pain eases with time.

Anne Marie will live on in my heart as a consummate teacher, colleague and friend. Her kind and generous heart – perfectly balanced with her uncanny ability to ask the questions that helped everyone she touched do and be our best– truly made her a cherished “wise woman” in my life. Bob, Fiona, Kerrianne and Erin – I cannot imagine the sadness your family is feeling and send my heartfelt condolences.

Dear Kerrianne, Fiona, and Erin, I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. I'll always remember her smiling, friendly face beaming from the audience at NSYO and other concerts. Sending you and your dad and your families lots of love at this difficult time.

Anne-Marie was  great professor. I studied Community Design at Dalhousie from 2003-06. Earth Science was not the focus of my degree, but with a professor like Anne-Marie Ryan I chose to take most of my electives in the Earth Science field.

A passage from her obituary really has special meaning for me.

"She gave her whole heart to support anyone in need through her words of encouragement and thoughtful questions. "

I felt as though, when she was teaching, that she was teaching directly to me, and even though we had an auditorium full of students at times she always made time for me after class and for other students as well.

The world has lost a great person, my condolences to Anne-Marie's family and friends.

Anne-Marie was a beloved colleague, and a powerful force in the SOTL world. When I started at Dalhousie she inspired me by her example, her ideas, and deep well of knowledge in teaching and learning. She made time to have lunch with me, to bounce ideas, and modeled how to show kindness and leadership in all aspects of what we do. I feel privileged to have been served in the same department as Anne-Marie, and her absence will be keenly felt for a long time to come. I will miss hearing her voice in all the CoPSci sessions and department meetings. My deepest condolences to the family and all who were lucky enough to know her.

Dear Bob, Fiona, Kerrianne, Erin and your families, I was deeply saddened by the news last week. My heart is breaking for all of you and I will hold on to the wonderful memories that I have - the many times together at Canadian Martys Church, the lunches we shared (not enough!) and  times at the Waeg. I will remember her laugh and quick wit; she was truly a gift to us all. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. There is another angel in heaven. With deepest sympathy, Trudy and Michel

I am so sad to hear that we have lost Anne Marie.  Many years ago we sat together on student discipline hearings, and Anne Marie always kept the best interests of the students at heart.  In recent years we stayed in touch through the work of the Centre for Learning and Teaching. Anne Marie was a smiling example of excellence in teaching and a role model for many of us.  My sincere condolences to her family. She will be greatly missed.
My heartfelt condolences to you all.  Anne Marie was my mentor, supervisor, teacher, coach, cheerleader and friend, and I am so grateful for her influence in my life. Her generous and tireless support through my PhD made all the difference.  I was always inspired and challenged by her cutting wit and her keen observations about the world.  She made the world better through her kind heart and genuine compassion for her students and colleagues.  What a beautiful soul. She will be deeply missed.
Bob and family I was so saddened to hear of Anne-Marie's passing. I last saw her in Ottawa  a few years ago. She listened to me chat about my PhD research. She was so supportive and enthusiastic. We also had time to share our joy of our children (she loved her family). A special person. She will be missed
My condolences to Bob, daughters, family and friends. Dr. Anne-Marie Ryan was an amazing educator, and I will never forget her kindness.
Rest in peace Dr. Anne. My prayers are with the family. I worked with the professor for a little time. She had a charismatic personality.
Hearing of Anne-Marie's passing has been a blow. I worked with her for years at Dalhousie prior to my retirement sharing side-by-side offices. She was always there to talk about nature (especially geology), the students and society in general - we were always trying to understand with the ultimate aim of making things better. I have so many great memories of her and tears come easily when I think of her not being here any more. Rest in peace Anne-Marie; we who are left behind, your family and a great number of friends, are the ones suffering by loosing you.

Dr. Anne-Marie was one of my favourite professors. She was so passionate about geology and teaching and it always showed!
I was so saddened to hear that Anne-Marie has left us.  After 13 years of University and many professors, I can genuinely say that she was the best educator I have ever had.  She connected with people, encouraged them and respected them.  At any point, whether in a lecture or on a field trip, she could find something interesting to teach.  Her enthusiasm for nature and science was a gift to all her students.   She will be sorely missed.
Larry and I send our love and condolences to Bob, the girls and all of Anne Marie's family. I was a colleague of Anne-Marie's when we were teachers at Sacred Heart. Anne Marie was always warm, sweetly kind and kindly sweet. In the last number of years, before Covid, whenever our paths crossed on the street or at Dal events, she had time for a catch up, always smiling and showing interest. Her obituary reflects the wonderful person Anne-Marie was not only to her family, but also to her students and community. Her sudden death is a shock and a loss for all. RIP Anne Marie
Our love goes out to Bob and family, as we  join them in grieving. We will forever remember Anne Marie for her intelligence and humour, and passionate caring guidance, not only in learning, but also in life.
