Andrew's obituary
Andrew Reyes Pangilinan, 55, affectionately known as “Andy” formerly of Glastonbury, passed away August 9, 2022, at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. Andrew is predeceased by his parents, Gervacio and Nancy Pangilinan, and sister, Hilary Rose Pangilinan. Born August 26,1966, in Hartford, Andrew is survived by his brother; Gervacio Florentino Pangilinan, Jr., his wife Shauna Lee, and their son, Aidan of Hebron, CT; sister Flora Pangilinan-Davis of Ronkonkoma, NY; and stepmother, Mary Ann Pangilinan of Florida. He attended Eastbury Elementary School and Glastonbury High School. Andrew was an intuitive artist, cut his own hair (it was in his genes) and could fix anything. He exceled in a variety of artistic mediums and created beautiful stone bird houses and feeders and contemplative wall art using sea glass – a favorite, his father at work at the hair salon. Andrew’s art is admired and coveted by his many friends on Facebook. Whether teaching the cabbage patch dance to his sister-in-law, building stone walls with his nephew, or renovating a shoreline home with his girlfriend Chrissy, Andrew would light up any space he entered. He loved all animals and once helped a giant snapping turtle in the middle of the road reach his destination with a Swiffer.
Andrew had a soft marshmallow heart with a protective steel shell exterior. He was open and genuine with his feelings and would certainly make you aware of his position. His contagious laugh is unforgettable as well as unmistakable; he would often save his heartiest laugh for his own jokes like when he lovingly named his two cats, Tiago and Gervacio, later known as “Binky.”
Andrew had a passion for simple bohemian living. He loved dancing at Tower of Power concerts, fishing on Bolton Lake, and kayaking to Pine Island. He was happiest when he was around family and friends. He was fiercely protective of his family and was a trusted and loyal friend. He thought of the needs of others more often than his own.
Hartford Hospital held a special place in Andrew’s heart where he worked in patient transport and the main storeroom for over 18 years. It is likely that all 2,000 employees knew him by name, and many became close forever friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Hartford Hospital, especially all the staff of C8I for their compassion and clinical expertise in caring for Andrew.
A celebration of life is being planned for the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Andrew’s name to the Connecticut Humane Society, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or Hartford Hospital.
Dear Andrew, thank you for giving us more time to share with you, especially on the day you passed. We know it was not easy for you but true to your character, you placed our needs above your own.
God Bless
