Andy's obituary
We are heartbroken to announce that Andrew Kellogg (Andy) passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 7th at IU Methodist Hospital, following a presumed ruptured brain aneurysm. He was a loving husband, father, and Papa, and the loss of his presence is immeasurable, as he leaves behind a legacy of love and faithfulness that he built over his 63 years on earth.
Born in Evanston, IL to lifelong Chicagoland residents Hortie and Marge Kellogg, Andy attended college at Miami University in Oxford, OH. It was there that he first joined a campus ministry, known at the time as Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru). During a summer project with Cru after his junior year of college, he met his future wife Maria Wisbacher. They were married in May of 1984, and settled in southern California near Maria’s family. They had two children, Kurt and Sonja, and in 2002 the family relocated to Fishers, IN.
Andy served on staff with Cru for over 40 years, working in various roles from playing saxophone in The Convertibles (a touring band through Cru’s music ministry), to operations director for Keynote, to financial analyst for the campus ministry. His work took him all over the world, and everywhere he went Andy brought his gentle, steady presence and gift for connecting with people.
Following in his father’s footsteps as a lifelong musician, Andy played saxophone in many bands, including (but not limited to) the Miami University marching band, touring bands through the music ministry at Cru, the GM Horns Big Band, the band Torn, and Mudsock Jazz Combo. He also helped lead worship and served as an elder at BridgeWay Community Church in Fishers, IN, where he has attended since 2003.
In addition to being a loyal Cubs fan, Andy's hobbies involved serving his community through volunteering. For the last 20 years he volunteered at Conner Prairie, helping with special events and Symphony on the Prairie concerts. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and lent his time to service projects through his church.
Most importantly, Andy spent his life pursuing the heart of God and being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. His faith was driven by love for his community, and the imagination to see what heaven on earth might look like. He did the work in front of him and never shied away from his calling. He was eternally patient and thorough, approached people with compassion and curiosity, and kept his promises faithfully. We should have all had more time with Andy, but we are so grateful for the time we were given.
Andy is preceded in death by his mother Margaret Kellogg, his father Horton Kellogg, his sisters Karen James (Trace) and Nancy Ponto (Al), and his foster brother Jim Duffee (Lisa).
He is survived by his wife Maria Wisbacher Kellogg, children Kurt Kellogg (Kristen) and Sonja Kellogg-Weeks (Stephen), grandchildren Cooper and Wesley Kellogg, and foster sister Linda Duffee Blake, as well as his extended family and countless loved ones in the form of ministry partners, band mates, church community, and dear friends.
One of Andy’s last acts of service was the decision and ability to be an organ donor. What a gift to know that his kindness will live on in the form of life-saving and life-changing care for others.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Fishers Church at 2pm on Saturday, August 16th, 2025. A visitation with Andy’s family will be held from 2-4pm on Friday, August 15th at BridgeWay Community Church in Fishers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cru (give.cru.org/0353228) to BridgeWay Community Church (bridgewaycc.com) or Living Water Church of the Nazarene (livingwaternazarene.com)
