I want to send along this upsetting news below and the opportunity for those who knew Amrita to join her funeral today virtually. I feel lucky that I got to spend time with her during my visit to USAID/India and see even a little bit of what she did for her team, for USAID, and for the millions with TB in India. What a joyful person and leader. She had so much life. It is hard to imagine the India Health team without her infectious smile and energy.

Hi, I just heard about Amrita's passing. How incredibly sad. I hope you and everyone in the mission are doing okay. She was so full of joy and a wonderful person. What a big loss. Sending a hug to you.

This heartbreaking news is so hard to understand. I’m feeling empty. I was very fond of Amrita and the light that she broadcast to the world.

Thanks for sharing this devastating news. I miss and love her. I am so grateful for the impact she had on my life. She taught me so much both personally and professionally, just as all of my USAID/India family has. I look forward to the time when my soul meets Amrita again.

I’m currently on R&R, but am 100% there with everyone in spirit. I will also separately leave thoughts for Rahul and Tara on the message board.

With the heaviest of hearts,

I am just returning from annual leave to find out about this terrible news. I cannot believe our dear Amrita is gone. I am so, so very sorry. This must be such a shock for you and all the colleagues and friends at the mission.

I first met Amrita about five years ago at a gender training in El Salvador and she made such an impression on me...her smile, her energy, her joy. Amrita was such a light - she was an incredible addition to our most recent AGILE cohort, and she had an amazing way of connecting the dots for skeptical colleagues between health and gender ... but what I loved most about her was her unrelentingly bright and generous spirit, and her selfless kindness. The last time I saw her at the gender conference was in the lunch line on the last day. I complimented the earrings she was wearing and she told me they were from an income-generating project she worked on with TB patients through the mission....and then she gave them to me. It was such a kind gesture and so emblematic of how she lived and gave her love to others. I will treasure those earrings for the rest of my life.

I wanted you to know, as well, that Amrita touched a lot of people at the gender conference and many of our colleagues are with you and supporting you from afar in your grief. Our colleague Cathy Odera just gave a lovely tribute to Amrita at our monthly gender-based violence community of practice; I'll send you the recording when it comes out.

Sending all of you at the mission a big hug,

Bonnie Robinson

I'm shocked....and confused. I didn't realize that Amrita never returned to India after the global gender conference and became so very ill. I remember sitting around a table at the conference laughing with all of you and Amrita, and the fun happy hour event.

I'm so deeply saddened by this news and send a huge digital hug to you all in India who knew her best.

Thinking of all of you,

Gwen Snyder

I am so deeply sorry to hear about Amrita's passing. It is a shock to me, so I cannot imagine the shock and loss that it is for you and others at the Mission. I am thinking of you, Amrita's colleagues at the Mission, and her family and friends. I hope you are doing alright, considering: taking the time and space you need. I'm so very very sorry.

What tragic news. My sincere and deepest condolences to her family and all who knew her. Ritika thanks for letting us know.

I was so touched by Amrita's positive, energetic and vibrant personality when I met her in DC in May. She is the kind of person that brings sun rays into a poorly light room with her infectious smile and her deeply engaged attitude. The capstone project she worked on for the AGILE training was incredible, integrating a gender responsive approach into TB programs in India, and seems to have brought important changes.

I am truly honored to have met Amrita, even though for a short time, I have been inspired by her. May we all continue to carry forward her important legacy.

Best,

Aline
