Gary was so full of life. It was like he viewed life through the eyes of a child - full of wonder, excitement, inquiry, and amazement but with such peace and without a care in the world. There was never any doubt that time spent with him would be fun and interesting.

We shared many wonderful adventures with Phyllis and Gary. On the trails, we joked and laughed and dreamed and struggled and froze our butts off, and at the end of each hiking day, celebrated our achievements. We acted silly together, striking goofy poses at National Parks signs and on rocks along our trails. Often the views left us just as breathless as the climbs we once thought impossible.

Gary always had a way of making us laugh. His superpower was his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone along the trail and leave them laughing. It often got him in “trouble” when we were pressed for time.

We are so lucky to have shared so many laughs together. Thank you for the lifelong memories. We will always think of you when we hike the Grand Canyon.

We miss you terribly. Happy trails, friend.

Every time we were together or talking on the phone Gary always said how much he loved everyone of us in Phyllis’s family. He was a true friend and I will miss him.
Prayers to all of Gary's family.  Always enjoyed talking to him when he came to visit his Montgomery family
