My condolences to her precious boys and family.  I’m sorry you had to lose your momma so soon. Life just doesn’t prepare us for losing a dear loved one so suddenly. She was a dear, soft, smart, funny lovely woman.

We grieve for the loss of our dear friend from our shared times in Ames, IA. How to honor her memory? Keep expanding our hearts, loving all beings with Alicia’s force of nature.

Tim and Lauren Cuellar send our deepest condolences in this hard time, we pray only for those to find some peace in their hearts. Such a kind woman with a big heart.
I had Dr. Cast as an undergrad at Iowa State University. She was one of a handful of professors who helped me get excited about learning. Now, I've completed three masters and am working on my doctorate. We kept in touch through social media from time to time. In 2015 we tried to make plans to have dinner together in Santa Barbra, but it didn't work out. Among the few sets of plans when we tried to connect, she said to me (someone she hadn't seen for over ten years): "You are always welcome!" I will always remember her as a gift, someone who ignited my love of learning, and someone who will now remind me to go to the dinner plans because life is short and we don't know the future. Thank you for making this memory page.

Dr. Cast was a phenomenal mentor, teacher, and advocate. She changed the way I see the world for the better. She made me understand my agency and the role of identity in my life. There is so much I still see in the world that I learned from her. She will be so missed.
My heartfelt condolences to all of Professor Cast's loved ones and family. As one of her students, my heart aches at the saddening news. She always filled her classroom with light and joy. She is a rare individual who had a motivating impact on her students. I am grateful to have had the privilege of learning from such a wise soul. Thank you for all you did and the lasting impact on my academic journey, Professor Cast.

Professor Cast was a devoted mother and professor. Her class sparked the beginning of my sociology research and graduate school journey. She was the first professor that I told the news to. She was overjoyed and that something I will never forget. She was a wonderful person whose life commitment was to touching the lives of students. Dr. Cast, your wisdom and humorous spirit will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to your loved ones. It’s a tremendous loss to all the students that were not able to chat in office hours or have a class with her.

With a heavy heart full of love and my deepest gratitude,

Sophia

My heart aches for professor Cast's family and friends. As one of her students she genuinely changed my college experience for the better and proved herself to be the most caring and genuine professor I have ever had. She was a rare and very special woman and the news of her passing is a loss for anyone lucky enough to have taken one of her classes and who got to experience first hand just how amazing she was. When I am done with my undergraduate education professor Cast is one who will make a remaining imprint as a part of my academic journey. I got to know her as she wrote one of my letters of recommendation for graduate school applications. Wherever or whenever I make my decision to attend a graduate school, a part of me will always think of professor Cast and thank her for taking the time to get to know me and help me through such a challenging part of my life. Once again I offer my most sincere condolences to the people who loved Professor Cast and hope that they know just how much of an impact she has made on so many people.
I am utterly and profoundly saddened to hear about the passing of the beloved Alicia Cast. Her legacy will forever remain in my heart as well as the community. I will always remember her kindness and consideration as a professor, and the taste of her cookies (gluten-free options were always available) will be one of my favorite memories. Dr. Cast was passionate about her work, and passionate about sharing her knowledge and thoughts with her students in a conversational manner, allowing anyone to share their thoughts as well. She made every student feel welcomed and heard. I will forever remember her as an integral part of my education career, and my personal life as well. She was never without a smile, sharing her love to everyone! Thank you, Alicia, for everything.
My deepest condolences to Professor Cast's family and all those who knew and loved her. Over the last year Professor Cast became more than a professor to me; she was a mentor and an inspiration. She believed in me and my goals more than I did sometimes, and that faith in me inspired me to take a leap and apply to grad school in London. The morning after I learned of her passing, I got my first grad school acceptance letter. My first thought was, "I wish I could tell Professor Cast about this." Her loss is felt so deeply by me and so many others, but I know we will all carry her legacy with us. May it inspire us to love deeply, follow our passions, and be a light to those around us.
What an outstanding professor she truly was to us all at UCSB. I have never felt more connected to and humored by another professor here on campus and I have an immeasurable amount of love for her and her family, who she shared beautiful and touching stories of in my class. My condolences to those who knew her more deeply than I had the pleasure to.
I was utterly stunned and deeply saddened upon hearing about the passing of Professor Cast. Her departure has left a profound void in our academic community. Not only was she an exceptionally caring and considerate professor, but she also possessed a remarkable ability to inspire and support her students both inside and outside the classroom. We have lost not just a teacher, but also a mentor and a friend. Professor Cast's legacy will forever endure in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
