Sherie Bohannon — St Francis hospice is absolutely the worse hospice I have ever experienced. The staff was obviously severely lacking in their individual knowledge of what hospice is. Nursing staff didn't give clear & concise medication instructions. They did not provide the DME that was needed for comfort.... Read more Never received personal care. The on call service was called multiple times. When the nuse arrived they quickly medicated him and promptly left. The education on keeping him comfortable was not given to his 89 year old care giver. ( the caregiver was unable to sleep for more than a few minutes the entire time pt. was on hospice). When family found out what was going on we came to the patient and caregivers rescue. On the day before my nephew died I was at his grandfathers home for several hours. The grandfather told me everything that hospice had done. Which was basically nothing since admit. My nephew was very uncomfortable and agitated. With assistance of a friend of patients we were able to calm patient enough to medicate him. Both the caregiver and patient were told when hospice nurse gave patient liquid immediate release morphine that it woukd take care of his pain for 24 hours and that pt was "NOT" to rake it again without calling a getting permission. Morphine us not a medication that lasts for 24 hours. Once I had been at the house I called my nephews mother and told her that her son was going to die soon. She headed to Oklahoma as soon was possible for her. After calming the grandfather(caregiver) and letting him know we were there to assist him in caring for my nephew.
On date of my nephews death the grabdfather started calling all of us telling us something was going on. Hospice was called. Once again they came medicated a promptly left. Pt's sister got to the home sge could see that her brother was in active stage of dying. Hospice was called & made a visit. (My niece said this nurse did decent job) When I arrived at the home( I don't live in Tulsa) it was very obvious that pt was actively dying. (I am an retired hospice RN). Pt was very agitated, respiratory distress and in pain. We were able to get him medicated and comfirtable. The csregiver told me pt hadn't urinated in 3 days. He had tried to tell hospice staff this. My nephew died with his family and friends at his side. Hospice called again. When the nurse arrived over an hour later. She just walked in a stared at us. We had to introduce our selves to her. She tells us who she is and that she was his case manager. Then she looks at is and states" Wow this is unexpected, he was fine Friday" I explain he had not urinated in 3 days, she still didn't seem to maje the connection with his death. He was indeed not fine on Friday as he had never been comfortable over a few hours for 3 weeks.
The nurse NEVER CHECKED his vs signs to verify his death. Never offered to clean his body up. She called and reported his death. Called the funeral home to pick him up. She destroyed part of his medications after reoeatedly asked to destroy ALL of the meds. The nurse looked at my niece and said even the zofran. Again my niece said yes all the prescription meds. I noticed she left a bag of medication that was sitting right next to the rest of the meds. At this point we had to go outsider &retrieve nurse who was sitting in her car working on her CEU's. (Yes she told us) When my sister arrived I let her know he had died a while before she arrived The nurse didn't introduce herself or provide any compassion. At this point several hrs. since funeral home was called. I insisted she find out when they were going to arrive. She did very reluctantly. She walked into the livingroom & said they would be there soon. And then she left. Not waiting for funeral home.
The nurse talked about herself a lot during visit. Once again St Francis Hospice is absolutely the worse hospice I have ever endured & over the years hasn't improved. I cry for each & every patient & family that is basically forced to use their service (instead of their choice). Read less

John Hutton — Absolutely the best!
Their care for mom was excellent, from the office support to the RNs. Also Pastor Bob was so comforting during her last days and even after her passing to our family. Thank you.

John Ishee — The entire team at St. Francis Hospice was wonderful in the way they took my father into their care, both in his time that remained as well at his recent passing. loulouzgirl — I used St Francis hospice for my husband, and my mother. They were wonderful! I'm a retired nurse from another hospital in Tulsa. I know what good nursing care is.
