About Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery, originally known as the Tobias Farm, has a rich history that begins with its previous owner, Mr. C. Tobias. In a gesture of deep kindness, Mr. Tobias deeded the land to Edward Banks, a young man whom he had come to treat as a son, as he had no children of his own. In 1922, Edward Banks sold the land to the City of Lansing, and it became the 103.96-acre site we know today as Evergreen Cemetery.
On May 30, 1950, Little Arlington Memorial was dedicated, a place of reverence and remembrance. Every year, on the Saturday preceding Memorial Day, both civilian and military services are held at 12:00 noon to honor the brave men and women who served our country in times of military need. Little Arlington Memorial is the final resting place for 120 individuals, with military markers that reflect the diverse service branches, religious faiths, and ethnic backgrounds of those laid to rest there.
