Zenaida's obituary
Zenaida Wenceslao, 60, passed away on February 19, 2023 at home after a 10 year battle with Multiple System Atrophy.
Zenaida was born on December 8th, 1962 in Pangasinan, Philippines. She was one of 10 siblings. She attended University of Baguio High school, where she met her future husband Fidel, while passing notes in class. She went on to study nursing at St. Louise University in Baguio City. After graduation, she landed her first job as a nurse at St. Louise Hospital. The high school sweethearts, Zenaida and Fidel, were wed in 1985. Together, they grew their family the following years with the birth of April in 1986, Adriane in 1987 and Arianne in 1988.
In 1989, Zenaida immigrated to the United States to continue her work as a nurse. Her family followed two years later in 1991 and settled in Michigan. In 1994, Zenaida and Fidel welcomed their fourth child, Adriel. Her mother-in-law, Felicidad, joined them in 1995.
Zenaida worked as an ICU nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital for 5 years. In 1996, Zenaida began working as a homecare nurse alongside her husband, Fidel. Together, they cared for hundreds of patients in inner city Detroit. Zenaida and Fidel worked together in homecare for almost 20 years until 2016, when her condition with MSA progressed and she had to stop working.
Zenaida loved spending time with her family. She and Fidel often took their kids on adventures to the beach, camping and Cedar Point. Get togethers with family and friends involved a lot of food, karaoke and minute-to-win-it games. Zenaida had a passion for quilting and making beautiful handmade blankets that she gave to her patients, friends and family. She enjoyed reuniting with her St. Louis University classmates, visiting them all over the United States. Zenaida became a grandmother in 2017 with Logan and again in 2019 with Josephine. She loved making her grandchildren laugh, eating together and going on walks to a nearby park.
Described as a beautiful soul, a breath of joy and a bright light by loved ones, Zeny (as those close to her called her) remains in many hearts and lives on in countless happy memories. With boundless generosity and hospitality, Zeny would welcome every guest into her home with warmth, joy and kindness. Friends of her children would even say they felt like family. Zeny was one in a million. We will miss her greatly.
Her celebration of life will be on March 31st, 2023 at 10am EST at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Troy, MI. We look forward to celebrating her beautiful life with all of you.
