Yunfei's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of our family member, colleague and friend, Feng Yunfei, on September 13, 2025, at the age of 41.

Yunfei Feng was a distinguished researcher and engineer whose career bridged academia and industry. After earning his Ph.D. in Computer Science, Yunfei pursued a path of innovation ranging from machine learning and computer vision to sensor technologies and medical imaging.

He authored and co-authored more than twenty scholarly publications, advancing knowledge in areas such as activity recognition, indoor localization, and computer-aided medical diagnostics. His work in deep learning for healthcare applications demonstrated his passion to using technology for human well-being.

Professionally, Yunfei worked at Walmart Global Tech, where he applied his expertise in artificial intelligence and large-scale systems to solve complex challenges. His work was widely recognized and cited, earning respect across both academic and professional communities.

Beyond his technical accomplishments, Yunfei was admired as a colleague and mentor — someone who combined intellectual rigor with generosity of spirit. His achievements stand as a testament to his brilliance, perseverance, and commitment to making a meaningful difference through science and technology.

In his family life, Yunfei Feng was equally a source of sunshine, warmth, and kindness — a devoted son and beloved grandson. He was always respectful and caring toward his parents and grandparents, expressing thoughtfulness and gratitude in both words and actions. Not only was he considerate and capable, but he often took the initiative to share household responsibilities, carefully tending to the needs of his elders. He accompanied them on many trips, showing constant care and making them feel comforted and cherished.

As a husband, he was gentle and attentive, responding with patience and understanding to his wife’s needs in both life and work, faithfully carrying the responsibilities of their home. Looking to the future, he was filled with joy and anticipation as he carefully prepared to welcome their soon-to-be-born son, eager to pass on all his love and devotion to the next generation.

Yunfei was not only the pillar of his family, but also a lasting source of pride for his loved ones. With sincerity and warmth, he brightened the hearts of those closest to him, embodying responsibility and devotion through his actions. His smile could always lift the clouds, and his presence filled his home with comfort, warmth, and hope.
