With profound sadness and respect, we announce the passing of Wylene Simpson, esteemed and beloved member of our community, on November 30th, 2024. Wylene was born on May 26th, 1945, and in the span of her rich and full life, she touched many hearts, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the fortune of knowing her.
Wylene is survived by her grandchildren, Brison Thompson, Jamese Thompson, Myron Thompson, and Taylor Simpson; and her daughters, Aleze Thompson, Carolyn Connolly, and Tracey Simpson-Smith. She was predeceased by her dear sister, Jeanette Johnson.
A dedicated attendee of Owens Chapel, Wylene's faith was immense and unwavering; it served as her guiding light throughout the course of her life. Her commitment to her principles was reflected in her role as a volunteer for the Civil Rights Activist group, tirelessly advocating for justice and equality.
Wylene's life was filled with an appreciation of the simple joys. She savored the distinct flavors of meatloaf, mustard greens, and her favorite, the classic Root Beer Float. An admirer of art, she had a particular love for festive church hats. Her passion for baking cakes and pies was well-known, marking her a favorite at family gatherings and community potlucks.
Television classics like Sanford and Son, Andy Griffin, and Gun Smoke brought her laughter and joy. Wylene cherished her vacation trips to Texas, relishing the time spent with her grandchildren. Both the Eastern Star and activist movements held a close place in her heart, her actions always reflecting her sincere dedication to these causes.
Wylene was a woman of vibrant personality, as bright as her favorite color, red. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the myriad of lives she touched. Her loss is deeply mourned by her family and her wide circle of friends. Her legacy is a testament to a life filled with love, faith, and unyielding commitment to her principles.
