In loving memory of our father, Willie "Moonie" Raymond, 75, of DeSoto, TX, passed away on October 25th, after a fearless battle with
Moonie was born on June 1, 1947 to Mary Raymond in Gunnison, MS. Moonie was raised by his Aunt Willie B. Barnett and his uncle Leo Barnett. Willie B. and Leo raised our father along side their thirteen children. Our father's cousins were his brothers and sisters. Moonie was married to Evelyn Raymond, deceased and later to Mae Lois Raymond, deceased. Moonie was the father of four children: two sons, Willie Raymond Jr., deceased, Demorris Raymond of Cedar Hill, TX and two daughters, Janean Jackson of Chicago, IL and Esperanza Raymond of Desoto, TX. Moonie was the brother of thirteen siblings. Charlene Bailey of Chicago, IL is his oldest living sister that often reminded him of their mother. Her love for him was unwavering, even in sickness. Moonie will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
One of the kindest souls on this planet, our father was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.
Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic in us. He was man of strong faith, although he did not attend church service. He taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right.
Moonie did not graduate High School or College, but he was definitely a first class heavy machinery mechanic. Moonie started his journey as a mechanic at the early age of twelve on a farm in Boyle Lane, MS. He later became a welder and settled at Circle H Farm of Boyle, MS. He has spent the last 25 years with his Circle H Family. He retired in December of 2020.
Our father leaves a legacy of innovation and love to the City of Gunnison.
