My father went into the emergency room twice within 48 hours from pain. My father was not one to ever go to the hospital, he avoided having to go at all costs. For my dad to go twice in a short time frame tells me something was severely wrong. The doctors both times gave my father pain medication and sent him home. This is disappointing to me. The healthcare system failed my father. A nurse practioner failed to use critical skills and tools to look at the man in front of them and figure out the solution to the pain. Labs should have been ordered, scans should have been done but not even questions regarding his family history, his smoking habit, or even regard for his age seemed to matter to this person who sent my father away both times. When my father finally had a massive attack, they were able to bring him back 7 times, but the damage was already too great. My father would still be here today if the people taking the front line to save lives take the extra steps and utilize their skills they are taught instead of rushing everyone out the door assuming they just want medication.
