William's obituary
William Ralph Walter, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on, July 11, 2023 at the age of 99.
William was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 25, 1923 to Mary (Dunn) Walter and Ralph Walter. He was the eldest of two children (half brother, Donald Carter).
He married Pariskovoula Pappinicolou in November 1942 and the couple had four daughters (Elaine, Cynthia, Mary Ann, and Katherine).
Bill enlisted in the Army Airforce in 1942 where he served as an Airplane Power Plant Mechanic until 1945. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal World War II. While serving he was Qualified as a Carbine Caliber 30M 1 Sharpshooter in 1944.
After his service he joined his mother, Mary Dunn Carter, in the family restaurant business. He owned and operated several restaurants over the years. Located in Lincoln and North Woodstock, NH, were The Timbers Restaurant, Mr. W’s, and The Longhorn Palace (in operation from 1946 to 2018).
While he worked tirelessly in the family business, he found time for his hobby of seeking out old junker cars and getting them up and running again.
After his lengthy career as a restaurateur, in 2018, at the age of 95, William retired to Florida, where he shared his life stories and pearls of wisdom over Sunday dinner. He enjoyed catching up with his “dollans” (darlings), watching auto racing (mostly NASCAR) and old western movies.
William was proceeded in death by his wife, Paris, {2nd wife, Joan}, and daughters, Cynthia Mulleavey and Mary Ann Tetley.
The so very beloved father of four, grandfather of 13, and great grandfather of 24 will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was an excellent example of living with honor and integrity and has left that legacy for us all.
While the family is saddened by his passing, we take comfort knowing that he is reunited with his so dearly missed family members.
There will be a memorial service held on December 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
