William Earl Scheibelhut passed away on May 28th, 2019 in Merriville IN, though he was a long time resident of Walkerton IN, and before that North Liberty IN. He was a nature lover and always encouraged me to do what I could to appreciate the woods and creeks, and protect them. Growing up I wanted to start a wild animal rescue because of the time he took me to visit one. As soon as I saw the baby raccoons I was hooked. I never got around to doing that but I still bring grocery bags every time I walk in the woods to clean up any litter, and I've thought my son's to do the same. Some of my favorite memories of him are when we'd go to Potato Creek State Park. I remember falling asleep on a lawn chair with him and waking up to see two raccoons sleeping by our feet, keeping them warm. We'd rent a cabin and bike the trails. I still remember my Potato Peddler t-shirt. He had a mischievous side as well and kept the cops in North Liberty busy around the 4th of July with his shenanigans. All innocent fun, I promise. What I miss the most is his laugh. Nobody laughs, well laughed like him. He'd get to laughing so hard his face would turn red, and even if what he was laughing at wasn't that funny you couldn't stop yourself from laughing along. Well Dad, thank you for passing down the importance of caring for nature, and I promise I've also passed that down to your grandkids. I love you, and you are missed.
