Ed's obituary

October 25, 1952- October 11, 2023. In the morning hours of October 11, 2023, William Edward “Ed” Sands, 70, passed away at home in Platte City, MO. He was a retired Park Ranger from the US Army Corps of Engineers and a US Army veteran.

Ed is remembered by family and friends for his love of family and friends, his smile and willingness to help others. Ed was a nature and animal lover, avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, reader, civil war reenactor and motorcyclist. He loved his girls and grandchildren more than anything. He bravely fought and beat two separate stage IV cancers over the last 14 years. Ed Sands was born on October 25, 1952, in Winston-Salem, NC, the second of six children to Raleigh and Irene Sands. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, James Raleigh Sands and Susan Irene “Gardner” Sands of Germanton, NC, two brothers James Larry Sands and Raleigh Bruce Sands of Mocksville, NC . Survivors include his wife of 47+ years Phyllis Lee “Martin” Sands of the home and his three children, Heather (Nate) Fair of Greenfield, IN, Kaelie (Ricky May) Sands of Stigler, OK and Ashley Sands of Platte City, MO, grandchildren Conner and Isabella Fair, Willow and Merrick Morrison as well as 53 nephews and nieces. His sister Debbie Sands of King, NC, brothers Sam Sands of Winston-Salem, NC and Scott Sands of Hillsville, VA. As well as his sister in law’s Jerry Martin of Augusta, GA, Sherry Brown of Byhalia, MS, Janet Murphy of San Dimas, CA, Debbie Bock of Aurora, CO, Audrey Sands of Mocksville, NC and brother in law Gary Martin of Edmond, OK.

Ed is being cremated and will have a celebration of life in the spring and he inurned at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 130 pm Friday November 17, 2023.
