The website sent Me a question to share knowledge obtained from relationship with Great Uncle Bill Rupe. I wish horribly I had known Him better. I love that He was into Arbor Day. I was given photos and knowledge of Our family and where I am from. That to Me is priceless.

My sincere condolences to Michael, Allen, Shari and family. Bill and I meet when the Hillier Group Architects closed their local San Antonio practice when Bill was the local partner. It was thru this change in 1986 that Bill joined with me and Davis + Rupe Architects was formed. The Hillier Group, thru Bill's joining my firm, brought with him an unfinished Interstate 10 Campus of TMI. Bill's dedication and hard work on this project over a two-year period was one of heart felt love, and he led our team to a successful new TMI campus. Bill's kindness and friendship continued thru multiple projects and years. He was a Master in his profession. Our office would share with his family (and my family) many years of working the "Bean Taco Booth" at NIOSA. We all enjoyed working side by side with Bill and Nancy .. wonderful memories. Working together was one thing.. playing together was also a thing that Bill would help organize with our staff. Each summer we would do a fishing trip to Port Aransas, one of Bill's favorite pastimes was gathering at the piers and casting lines for fishing .. or renting a boat for the staff to bay fish. He would always talk of team building by gathering and cooking the "catch of the day"... Just good fun! As a business partner he was always mentoring our staff and myself on Honesty and Integrity in the way we work with clients. He was soft in words and tone, with a sense of understanding and compassion with our staff, clients and contractors. I will always remember Bill as a Partner, a catus lover, and a good friend.
Rest in peace Bill, until we meet again!

My deepest condolences. I met Mr. Rupe when I started working at DDHR at the age of 21. I also had the pleasure of knowing Nancy, both were very special. Mr. Rupe taught me so much, especially writing specifications. He always took time to have lunch with his daughter and wife often. And Nancy made sure to always give me an orchid every year. He was the best architect ever! I speak of Mr. Rupe, all that he taught me and others, and will always keep his memory alive, as he taught so many of us. I would be honored to attend his celebration of life.

Michael, Allen and Shari,
I am so sorry for your loss. What a life well lived at 95 years old. That is such a blessing. I have so many memories of days gone by in San Antonio....and Breckenridge Park, remember that little train we loved to ride? Oh, what fun we had...and all because of our amazing parents on both sides. One of my special memories of your dad was back in the 60's when he took us to a PGA golf tournament. We saw Arnald Palmer playing amongst many others, but my special moment of meeting the governor of Texas John Connaly was icing on the cake. I even got an autograph! Not really even grasping at the time his significance in relationship to the JFK assassination. What a special treat to get to attend a PGA tournament. Uncle Bill was a sweet, kind, and thoughtful man, allowing us all to just have fun.
Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Remember your cousin Jon lives in NYC and would love to see you anytime if you venture East.

When my mom passed away in February of 2006 (18 years ago), my dad told me we needed to go on a trip. That summer we made the first of several annual "road trip" adventures to western states to see as many national parks, historic sites, sporting events, and scenic points of interest as we could fit into 10 to 14 days. Sometimes we flew to a starting point like Salt Lake City, San Jose, Burbank, or Denver where we rented a car for a week before flying back to Texas. We were able to visit places like Monument Valley, Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon NP, Grand Canyon NP (north and south rims in one day), Mesa Verde NP, Yellowstone NP, Grand Tetons NP, Yosemite NP, Sequoia NP, Rocky Mountain NP, California Highway 1 from Morrow Bay to Monterey, Huntington Botanical Gardens, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Alcatraz Island, The Golden Gate Bridge, and a Texas vs. UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl. I will always be grateful for the time we had together on those adventures.
