Bill's obituary
William P (Bill) Peterson of Clearwater, FL passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024 from complications following a traumatic accident at the age of 78. He was born March 27, 1945 in Troy, NY to William & Beatrice Peterson. After serving in the Air Force and receiving a medal of merit, Bill graduated from HVCC & State University of New York in Albany, married his childhood crush and went to work first as a Commercial Lines Insurance Underwriter for 31 years and then as a Risk Management Specialist for the City of Clearwater for 10 years. He was a softball and soccer coach, a town treasurer, a church lector, an enthusiastic volleyball player, and an all-around great, supportive, and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family but many have lost a faithful friend and loved one in him. When at gatherings he always wanted to make sure that everyone was included doing everything to keep everyone in one room. As an ambassador for the neighborhood he always had a big smile on his face and put others before himself. He enjoyed lunch with his colleagues from Clearwater City and speaking to local high school students about safety. Taking photos of the family gave him great enjoyment especially those with his grand kids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Zemanick. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen, his children Heather Schaefer, Scott Peterson, Angela Peterson, Elissa Buird, his sister, Pat Nolin, and 5 grandchildren Fred, Michael, Austin Buird, Macey and Nicholas Peterson.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St Catherine of Siena Church in Clearwater, FL on February 29 at 11 AM (EST).
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation would be appreciated.
