William's obituary

William J. O’Connor III “Oakie”

1955 – 2025

William J. O’Connor III, lovingly known as “Oakie,” of Neptune, NJ, passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 70.

Born and raised in Neptune, Oakie began his career working for Neptune Township before joining IUPAT, where he proudly worked as a taper and finisher for many years until his retirement.

A lifelong fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees, Oakie loved cheering on his teams, spending time with his daughter, and enjoying the company of his many friends at The Garden Bar (formerly Sprengel’s). But above all, his greatest joy in life was being “Pop-Pop” to his beloved granddaughter, Raiin, who brought him endless happiness.

Oakie is survived by his daughter Katelin O’Connor, son-in-law Gavin Nelson, and granddaughter Raiin Paige Nelson, along with many cousins from both the Curcio and O’Connor families. He is predeceased by his father William J. O’Connor II, his mother Ida C. Curcio (O’Connor), and his sister Barbara Jean O’Connor (Bitters).

Oakie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter, loyalty, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
