I am sorry to hear of both Margaret's and Bill's passing. Both were wonderful people with whom I lost contact. Bill and I were in school together at SIU-C and spent many hours in neighboring research labs. He and I both learned to pilot there. Alison, I bet you don't remember going to Colorado skiing--one of your dad's favorite activities--but you kept us all awake on the drive from Carbondale. William, I met you when I visited your family in Marquette. I remember driving with your dad and stopping at a roadside stand to get fresh cherries. I am willing to bet you like them as much as he. Thomas, I never got to meet you, and I wish I had been able to stay in contact with your parents to do so. Your Mother gave me some of the best advice I ever had. I called and asked her what I should do about the lady I was dating at the time. She said, "Ask her to marry you." For me, that was one of the best decisions I have made.

Bill & Margaret were two wonderful people. They were very loved by the Jerry Roth family. Bill was Jerry's student @ NMU. Bill & Margaret stayed in touch over the years. Our family is truly fortunate to have known them. Our deepest sympathy goes to their family. The Jerry Roth family.

Bill was a fraternity brother and a high school classmate. He was a very bright and thoughtful man. He was also a very good athlete, holding the pole vault record for quite a while in the U.P. I enjoyed his take on politics, and of course, his government work educated him about that. He will be missed by all who knew him, a good guy and a man who put his chemistry to work with his brewing. Will miss you at the reunions this summer and beyond.

Bill was a great man. I’ll brew beer in his honor. I don’t know what to say.
