William's obituary
William Edward “Bill” “Billy” McCabe, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished Pop-Pop, and retired New York City firefighter, passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 76. He was a kind, caring, and truly remarkable man.
Born on December 26, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, William grew up with a strong sense of duty and resilience—qualities that would define both his career and personal life. He proudly served the city he loved as a member of the New York City Fire Department, dedicating himself to protecting others with unwavering courage and integrity. After retiring from the FDNY, William continued to share his talents and work ethic as a plumber and later as a part-time associate at Home Depot.
William’s life was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith and centered around his family. He found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, especially during the holidays, which he celebrated with great enthusiasm and care. His festive decorations brought warmth and cheer to every gathering. Whether he was listening to audiobooks, tinkering with tools, or relaxing by the beach, William embraced life’s simple pleasures with gratitude and contentment.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra M. McCabe; his children, William E. McCabe II and his wife Susan, Walter L. McCabe and his wife Jane, and Amanda N. Procak and her husband John. William was a proud grandfather to Sydney R. McCabe, Killian H. McCabe, John W. Procak, and Carmela M. Procak. He was predeceased by his son, Wyane Eric McCabe; his late wife, Anna Marie McCabe; his parents, Walter McCabe and Dorothea Greenburg; his stepfather Louis Greenburg; his brother Michael; and his sisters Diane and Joanie.
William’s legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched with his service, strength, and kindness. May his memory be a blessing and a source of comfort to all who knew him.
