William's obituary
William Wai Lam Lu, age 78, passed away on September 20, 2021 in San Gabriel, California. William was born on September 2, 1943 in Hing Ling County, Guangdong Province of China. He later moved to Hong Kong at the age of ten where he lived with his mother and his two younger brothers. He attended Heung To Middle School and was a star athlete in track and swimming. After he graduated in 1965, he immediately worked at a bank to provide for his family. He met his wife Anita and later they got married in 1971. They went on to have four children, Howard, Janice, Jasmine, and Jennifer. After owning a restaurant in Hong Kong for many years, his family had the opportunity to immigrate to America. In 1988, they made the big move to United States and settled in Monterey Park, California. In 1996, his mother fell ill and he decided to sell his business and return to Hong Kong to care for her. He did not return to the US until 2 years later after his mother passed. In 2006, William had the opportunity to accept the gospel and decided to believe in the Lord and became a Christian. From then on, he started a new chapter in his life, with the hope of an eternal life.
For most of his life in the US, his work revolved around eastern medicine until he retired in 2019. Throughout this time, he had developed many deep friendships and earned the respect of many of his friends and coworkers. He was easy going by nature and extremely generous in helping anyone in need. William was an honorable man who was determined to provide for his family. William is survived by his wife, his 4 children, and his 9 grandchildren.
In his past time, William enjoyed playing mahjong, watching sports, and traveling the world with his wife. They especially enjoyed going on cruises with his friends. They also made frequent trips to Hong Kong to visit relatives and attend reunions with his classmates. In addition to traveling, his pride and joy were his 9 grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them at the park, attending their sports games and dance performances, but most of all cooking them weekly meals with homemade Chinese soup.
This past year has been a difficult one for him and his family. Not only did he have to stay home with limited visitors during the pandemic, he was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Along with other medical conditions, his health slowly deteriorated. His suffering ended with him joining our Father in Heaven on September 20, 2021.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, October 9th. In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family requests that donations be made here and will be donated to a charity in his name at a later time.
