Bill's obituary

William “Bill” Stephen Long

April 1, 1962 – August 10, 2025

William “Bill” Stephen Long, 63, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on April 1, 1962, in Plainfield, Indiana, Bill lived a life defined by love for family, a generous heart, and a spirit that embraced every moment.

Bill was a loving father to his son, Jason Long, and daughter, Katie (Taylor) English, and a proud grandfather to Bayley Long and Charli English. He is also survived by his sisters Karla (Jeff) Summers, Dianah (Ken) Duh, and Robin (Kurt) Steward, and by Justin (Cyndi) Duh Sr., whom he considered like a son. He adored his nieces and nephews — Jillian Allen, Aiden Duh, Justin Duh Jr., and Frankie Duh — and always celebrated their accomplishments with pride.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Rollis “Nip” Long, his mother, Geraldine “Jerry” Long-Snavely, and his sister, Sherry (Nate) Young.

Affectionately known as “Wild Bill,” he lived life with boundless energy, humor, and an adventurous spirit. His decades-long career as a salesman wasn’t just a profession — it was a calling that allowed him to connect with others. He never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued.

Bill’s adventurous spirit was matched only by his compassion. He was the first to lend a hand when someone was struggling, and his acts of generosity, both big and small, left a lasting impact on friends, family, and even acquaintances. Whether he was sharing a laugh, offering a word of encouragement, or simply being present, Bill had a gift for making others feel loved.

His battle with cancer revealed a remarkable strength and grace that inspired those around him. Despite the challenges, he embraced every day with determination and gratitude, cherishing each moment with the people he loved most. Bill’s greatest joy in life was his family. He taught his children the value of resilience, kindness, and living life to its fullest.

A Celebration of Life and reception will be held on Thursday, August 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Avon Gardens. Family and friends are invited to come share memories, laughter, and love in honor of Bill. Please honors Bill’s wishes and wear bright and cheerful colors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Bill’s memory. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Driscoll and the staff at the Norton Cancer Institute for their compassionate care during Bill’s journey.

Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warmth, his humor, his adventurous nature, and above all, his unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
