Bill's obituary

William "Bill" Kretzmeier, 86, of New Braunfels, passed away on December 27, 2022.

Bill was born on March 14, 1936.  He grew up in New Braunfels and was the only child of Herbert and Clara Kretzmeier.  After graduating from New Braunfels High School, he went on to study music at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, majoring in French Horn. This is where he met his beloved Mildred "Millie" Crusius. They wed in 1961.

After graduation, he landed his first teaching job at South San High School, and the legend began. He was the director at South San High School, Taylor High School, Bulverde Middle School, and started the choir program at the brand new Smithson Valley High School in 1976. He also directed various church choirs, the community chorus, and the New Braunfels Germischter Chor Harmonie, to name a few.  Mr. K's choirs were known for their tradition of singing The Benediction at the end of every concert.  He shared his faith through the music he created with his choirs.

Bill was a force of nature. He did things his way and didn't concern himself with what others thought.  As a teacher, he was determined to instill in his students that they had worth and abilities that no one could take away. He encouraged them to give their best at all times and would let them know both when they had done so, and when they hadn't.  His faith, family, and close friends were forefront in his life.

Bill was a passionate musician and hot rod buff. When he wasn't directing a choir or writing  and rearranging musical compositions,  he was building his hot rods.  He also passed his mechanical prowess down to his son and grandson. It was not uncommon to find Bill sitting in the garage sharing tall tales and stories with friends, many of whom were former students from years gone by.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, and his wife Millie. He is survived by his son Paul, daughter Ruth and husband Jim Lansing, grandchildren Julie, Callie and Kenneth William, as well as four great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hope Hospice New Braunfels at 611 N Walnut St, NB, TX 78130.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
