I was very saddened to come across the news of Bills' passing. He was a very special person. He was more than an employer. I remember Bill and Judy inviting us out to Gimli to spend the day out on the sailboat. I even got a turn at the wheel! I treasure my opportunity to have been a part of his dental team. He was a very kind, pleasant , generous, and caring man. Bill always put his clients first. He provided excellent professional dental care, and I know that from my own experience. He made everyone as comfortable as possible. My parents often mentioned their dental trips out to the farm, which they very much looked forward to. I want to express my sincerest sympathies and prayers to the entire family. Treasure the memories. He will always be missed.

We would like to extend a big Thank You to everyone who made their way out to Gimli to celebrate Bill and the amazing person he was. He would have been so thrilled to see so many loved ones be together in his honor raising a glass to him.
We had guests all the way from Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatchewan, and of course Winnipeg. It is so very appreciated that you all made the trip to be with us on this very special day.
If you have any photos you would like to share, please email them to Brigitte at brigittesmutny@icloud.com
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Love Brigitte and Family

Some of the memories to share from my time knowing Bill that stand out were first meeting him at his farm and going skiing with him. My mom told me that she met someone that shares her passions in life and that he invited us to come meet him at his farm. I learned that he really liked the same things we all loved to do. Not like she needed my approval but it’s fair to say that i liked him immediately.
He made us his famous latte’s which had a special ingredient in them that day. Andrea noticed specs in the caramel which I thought were chocolate flakes. As it turned out those flakes were little ants that made their way into the caramel bottle. After sharing a long laugh with Bill his response was “Hows that for a first impression?” Great impression indeed and another fun memory to remember.
He even joined the sailing team to spent more time with my mom while she spent a better part of the summer being away from home. We raced in some of the same regattas and his blue boat was easy to spot around the race course. He sailed with zero complaints and always had friendly advice to the younger sailors.
It was always a great time when my mom and Bill visited us in Vancouver. We loved showing him all our favourite spots in Whistler and enjoyed long conversations about the day’s events.
My daughter Taya even came up with the nickname Billabilla when she was younger as she had a hard time saying Bill. This name kind of stuck and we all started calling him by his new name.
We will always remember his kindness and joy he brought to all our lives.

Bill and I were close for almost 50 years as a best friend and brother that I never had. Throughout our lives, we shared a number of adventurousness activities: skiing, sailing, and sports cars. Bill and I met at Gimli Yacht Club where we both shared a similar passion for the excitement of Lake Winnipeg. Our other connection was through dentistry. Bill as a brilliantly gifted dentist and me as a best friend patient!
He was always modest of his mechanical ingenuity and his many solutions to fixing stuff, be it dentistry, farming, construction, vehicles, or sailing.
I had the pleasure of introducing Bill and Brigitte at a party at my home in 2008 knowing that they both had a fierce passion for sailing and skiing. They became instant partners and the rest is history.
Bill was instantly accepted into Brigitte's family and was intensely proud of his new connections with them.
Bill was always generous with his time and energy. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
