William's obituary
William Taft Galbreath, (USMC Retired) age 90, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015, in the Community Hospice House, after an extended illness. He was the son of the late George Washington and Ailey McGill Galbreath. He was born on December 6, 1924 in Montgomery County, and lived there most of his life. He was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy from August 1943 to March 1946. During World War II, he served in the Philippine Islands receiving the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star and the WW II Victory Medal. In July 1946, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving in China and Korea, receiving the American Area Medal, China Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal with one star; American Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal five times. Retiring from the Marine Corps after more than twenty years, he came back home to Montgomery County. He started another career at Edwin I Hatch Nuclear Plant in Baxley, and retired in 1985, after twenty years. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Robert, Eugene, George Wilson, Emmett, John Hilton, Hiram, Daniel W., and Herbert Dene; and two sisters, Ruth G. Burns and Wilma G. Jones.
Mr. Galbreath is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 19th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Corley and Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Galbreath Cemetery near Alston, with full Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.
