In lieu of flowers

Please consider a contribution to Care of Bill's Garden.

Background

Bill spent countless hours curating a garden for his beloved wife and home. The flowers, landscaping, and ornaments were lovingly maintained every season for Bill and Gail to have the most picturesque haven. It was truly a labor of love and his favorite thing to do. When he wasn't working on the garden, he would spend the rest of his free time enjoying it while reading fantasy books outside.

If you are able to donate, this fund will go towards hiring a landscaping professional for the next few seasons to help us preserve the existing structure and plant life, and hopefully adapt the garden for easier maintenance moving forward.

We know nothing lasts forever, but in lieu of sending flowers that would only last a short time, a gift here will help preserve his garden while we mourn his loss.

Updates

Update from Sept. 21, 2024

Thank you so, so much for everyone's love and support. This has definitely greatly surpassed what we thought it would be, and we couldn't be more thankful.

We've met with Green Grass Landscapers in Downers Grove, who were extremely knowledgeable and took us through the entire property to identify everything my dad planted, and we've just engaged them to do Fall Cleanup, which handles cutting back plants to prepare for them for the winter. We've already got a different local company on board to do regular maintenance. Your help will allow us to utilize Green Grass to handle the huge amount of physical labor that's needed in fall and spring to keep Dad's garden running for at least 2-3 years.

Again, we couldn't be more thankful, and this means so much to us. Thank you all!

Update from Sept. 11, 2024

Hi everyone, Thank you so, so much for your generous contributions toward maintaning Dad's garden. I'm meeting with Mom tomorrow -- we've already got a landscaping company lined up to continue to care for the garden as summer ends, and I'm doing research into someone more specialized to evaluate the garden and advise on care and adjustments to make it more easily maintainable next year. If anyone has any recommendations in the Chicagoland area, please feel free to reach out (or comment here if that's possible!)
