William (Bill)'s obituary
He was born in Greenwood, Mississippi to William (Toby) Floyd, Sr. and Lorene (Killebrew) Floyd on October 3, 1958. After he graduated from Pillow Academy in 1976, Bill went to Delta State University, where he received a Bachelors and a Masters of Business Administration. While there, Bill participated in Renaissance, a vocal group that toured the world and performed many of the top hits of the time. In 1985 he married Shelley Dalrymple (then of Ocean Springs, Mississippi), with whom he had three daughters; though their marriage did not succeed, Bill and Shelley remained dear friends, and Bill loved his daughters very much.
Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman from a young age, and always enjoyed time in the outdoors. When he wasn’t working or with his family, Bill could be found hunting, fishing, or even just enjoying mowing his lawn. Social and charismatic, he also enjoyed throwing parties and hosting big family picnics. He thrived in the spotlight, whether on stage with Renaissance or hosting big get-togethers; as anyone who has ever know him would say, Bill was a character! He was always ready with a joke and a big smile!
After decades of being out of touch and leading separate lives, Bill reconnected with a fellow Renaissance alumni, Melanie (Puckett) Baker of Meridian. The love they had for each other in college was rekindled, and they were married on September 24, 2012. Though Bill’s health began to deteriorate shortly afterward, they have shared several years of love and contentment together.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Melanie (Puckett) Floyd of Meridian; his daughters, Elizabeth Walley (Robert) of Belleair, Florida, Erin Smith (Brooks) of Wiggins, Mississippi, and Corey Floyd of Long Beach, Mississippi; three granddaughters (Emma, Madeleine, and Amelia) and one grandson (Vance); his sister Debra (Floyd) Atkinson (James) of Biloxi, Mississippi; his nieces Aubrey (Little) Shute (Ty) of Brandon, Mississippi and Kelsey (Atkinson) Richmond (Justin) of Utah; his step-children Sarah, Hannah, and Noah Baker; a great-niece and several great-nephews; and many other family and friends.
