William's obituary

William Frederick Benesch, age 68, passed away in the morning of August 1, 2023 at his home in Skokie, Illinois, surrounded by his wife and children.

Bill was born to Howard Vincent and Audrey Marie Benesch on January 26, 1955, the coldest day of the year. Bill attended Glenbrook South High School, where he excelled in academics and athletics. He pitched for Glenbrook South's baseball team for three years before his graduation in 1973. His talent for baseball led him to Arizona State University, where he pitched on an athletic scholarship.

After a brief bout of illness Bill attended Knox College, where he studied math and physics and lived it up in Galesburg. He particularly enjoyed playing trumpet in the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. Following another struggle with chronic illness, Bill returned to the Chicagoland area and began a career in four-color printing. Over the next decade, he worked at various print shops and traveled to Europe and Central America. Bill returned to school in 1991, attending the University of Illinois-Chicago for a five-year architecture program. After graduating with his Bachelor's in 1996, Bill pivoted to a career in architectural engineering that spanned the rest of his life. He loved working in the city of Chicago and developed a vast knowledge of Chicago's unique architecture, having worked on hundreds of buildings throughout his career.

On June 26, 1993, Bill married Kala Kant, the love of his life. Bill and Kala welcomed their daughter Ambria in 1997. After moving into their home in Skokie, their son Cameron was born in 1998. Bill loved raising his two children, beautifying his home, listening to a diverse collection of music, expressing his opinions on current events, and cultivating his garden.

Bill is survived by Kala Kant, his wife of 30 years; their two children, Ambria and Cameron Benesch; and his siblings, Jim (Diane) Benesch; Laurie (Mike) Trubnick; Tom (Mary) Benesch; Donald (Linda) Benesch; David (Jane) Benesch; Judy (Floyd) Smith; and Janet (Jeffrey) Armgardt. Preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Marie Benesch (née Fortman) and Howard Vincent Benesch. He was a nephew, cousin, and uncle to many. Bill will be forever loved and missed by those who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 3-7p.m. at Marcello's Northbrook (1911 Cherry Lane, Northbrook, IL 60062). In lieu of flowers please donate to the family's flower fund.
