Not long after Wes found out he had his illness I received a birthday gift from him and Dia.  It came in a paper bag with a wonderful inscription on it. There was a six pack of beer in the bag. The extraordinary handywork on the bag was all Wes. I feel so blessed to have know him and appreciated his friendship.

Happy Heavenly 69th Birthday Wes! We miss you so much. Love you ❤️
I remember cross country skiing, riding on your bike, steering your sailboat on Lake Charlevoix and dancing at a wedding.  Hope you are dancing and enjoyed the ride on earth!  Life is short here and you enriched those lives who spent time with you.
I feel so incredibly blessed to have known Wes and to have him be such a meaningful part of my life, as well as my mother’s and siblings’. He was one of the most genuine, kind-hearted souls I’ve ever met, and his love and warmth touched our lives in ways words can’t fully capture. I will forever cherish the joy, wisdom, and kindness he brought into my life, and his presence and impact will always live on in my heart ❤️

Did not know my cousin Dia’s husband Wes that well but only heard wonderful things about him. My story of him is, we were all at a family wedding my first since my husband died three years prior, my family was telling me to dance but I said no I couldn’t without my husband and Wes said “oh yeah” and took my hand and led me to the dance floor, made me feel good and danced the rest of the night. I’ll never forget his kindness♥️

Wes Wilcox was a truly special person—warm, kind, and endlessly generous. He had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued, always ready with a nugget of wisdom, a word of encouragement, and a genuine interest in the lives of those around him. Without Wes, Brian and I likely never would have met, fallen in love, or built the life we share today. In 2018, I had just moved back to Madison, Wisconsin, from Los Angeles, while Brian had recently relocated there from Detroit, looking for a fresh start. During a transitional time in Brian’s life, Wes and Brian’s mother, Dia, welcomed him into their home with open arms. That simple act of generosity unknowingly set the stage for our love story.

As our relationship grew, it became clear just how much of an impact Wes had on our journey. He wasn’t just a supportive presence—he was an integral part of our story. It only felt right that he be the one to officiate our wedding, because without him, that day may never have happened.

Wes had a rare gift for making people feel at home, whether they had known him for years or had just met him. He brought warmth, compassion, and understanding into every conversation, and his love for people was evident in everything he did.

Though Wes is no longer with us, his presence is still deeply felt in the life Brian and I share. Without even realizing it, he changed our path forever, and for that, we will always be grateful.

We will miss Wes forever. The many adventures we shared traveling and the time we spent together were some of the best moments of our lives.
