It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Wertna G. Story on August 17, 2024. Born on October 16, 1930, Wertna made the world a brighter place with her warm, witty, and independent spirit. She was a woman of great reserve, always putting others before herself and engraving her love within the hearts of people who had the privilege of knowing her.

Wertna was a beacon of wisdom, always encouraging those around her with the belief: "Don't wait until tomorrow if you can do it today." Carrying this philosophy throughout her life, she attained an impressive number of academic degrees. Her perseverance and tenacity resulted in three Master's degrees, two Bachelor's degrees, and two Associate degrees - a testament to her relentless pursuit of knowledge and her belief in lifelong learning.

Her greatest pride, however, was being a loving and steadfast mother to her entire family. Her legacy of love, strength, and resilience will be carried forward as we continue to honor her by embodying the values she held dear.

Wertna's life will be celebrated through a Viewing to be held at W.E. Lusain Funeral Home and Crematory at 629 Goldwire Way. Birmingham, AL  35211 on August 28, 2024, from 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM.  Furneral Service will be held at Ephesus SDA Adventist Church at 105 6th Ave. North, Birmingham, AL  35204 on Thursday August 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM

When we remember Wertna, we reflect on a life lived with courage, grace, and unwavering kindness. Her spirit will continue to inspire everyone who knew her.

In these moments of great sorrow, we find solace in the unforgettable memories that Wertna has left us. We thank her for teaching us the true value of life and for showing us the way to lead ours. While her physical presence may no longer be with us, her spirit and the lessons she imparted will forever remain in our hearts.
