Wayno was so caring and helpful to all— whether you asked for the help or not. The first time I met him was when I had moved into your neighborhood and was hosting a get together for the girls. My daughter was working in Newtown and it was snowing. Your dad showed up and insisted that I didn’t drive in the snow and proceeded to drive to Newtown to pick Erica up. He didn’t even know me at the time... as I got to know him it became clear that this was just the kind of person your dad was. I can’t even imagine how much you girls and your mom will miss him. Have not been able to stop thinking about all of you. Love to all of you.

Mr. DeCarlo has always been an amazing light in this world. He supported Ashley, my great friend since the early softball days and still counting. His support for Ashley was so strong, that he couldn’t help but extend that support to anyone she connected herself with. I’ll always remember hearing him, “come on ashy d!!!!” and then coming up to bat right after her to hear, “come on Colleen!,” just as loud from Mr. DeCarlo. His kind presence was contagious and he always knew how to make people feel like someone was cheering them on. As Ashley and I grew up, that support from Mr. DeCarlo even spread outside out the sports realm, any aspect of my life he’d make sure to share his encouragement. Anytime I saw him, he’d make sure to check-in with my family , especially his good friend Vic (my dad) and my dad loved checking in with him. Ashley and I would joke that when they’d run into each other we knew we wouldn’t be able to separate those two from talking on and on and on........and on lol. Anytime I’d tell my dad, I’m going to see Ashley, an immediate response was, “Tell Wayne hi! How is he!” Then I’d meet up with Ashley for her to tell me her dad was just as excited for us to hangout so I could tell my family Mr. DeCarlo said hello- especially to his pal Vic. His encouragement and support radiates through Ashley and all those she comes across, and he has left a monumental light full of cheer in this world. Mr. DeCarlo will be so so missed but that light he left behind will never dim. Rest In Peace Mr. DeCarlo.

One of the most memorable things I remember about Wayne is what a jokester he was. He had such an incredible wit and I don’t think I could ever be in a conversation with him without smiling. Literally smiling now as I type this. My heart is heavy but knowing the incredible person he was and the incredible daughter he had that I’m lucky enough to have met and grown up with and be friends with, that truly fills my heart.

Wayne impacted my life in More ways than one. Not only did I grow up living down the road from him, and cheering with ash, who became one of my best and closest childhood memories and gtiends, I related to him so much about how much we missed our call dads. Weather it was in person or when I shared a post on Facebook, wayno always showed me that I was loved and not alone in my grief. I’m lucky for the memories I have with Wayno and all the decarlos growing up. Some of my best memories were made on misty brook lane. But I know Wayne is drowning endlessly in watching cheer comps, football games and looking over his beautiful family with his dad and I hope one day he finds mine. I love you Wayno, and your whole family, and I’m grateful for all the time I spent with you growing up.

I was on the UConn cheerleading team with Ashley throughout college. Her dad NEVER missed a big game. I remember this day vividly. We were in Dallas, Texas, for the UConn Women's Final Four Basketball Championship. After a long couple days of traveling, practices, and school work - a bunch of us decided to go out to eat and just relax.

Out of no where Ash's dad showed up at the restaurant. He flew down to Texas not to watch the basketball game, but to watch his daughter do what she was born to do. It was so apparent and contagious the love they had for each other. You could instantly tell that he was so supportive and proud of Ashley. I hope one day, we all can find a guy that loves his children as much as Mr. DeCarlo loved his girls.

From that point on, I always noticed Ash's dad at the games. I could see how excited and happy she would become when she spotted her dad in the crowd, cheering her on. The entire DeCarlo family is in my thoughts and prayers.

My dad definitely earned the title of greatest cheer dad of all time. From my first years cheering to my very last he was my biggest fan. I remember he would always pick a silent point in a game to scream “go ashy de!” from the crowd. I was embarrassed then, but oh the things I would give to experience him and his matching UConn cheer dad outfit, just one more time. He never missed a single game of mine. Not even once.
