Warren's obituary
“…Whatever it’s all about, it has been a great journey and grand adventure and I feel very privileged to have had the experience!” ~Warren Robert Piper - final line from his memoirs
Warren Robert Piper passed peacefully on the morning of Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. He was born in Clifton, Kansas in 1928 to Warren Alexander Piper and W. Amy Piper (Conrow) and he lived his last years in Burlingame, California under the loving care of his daughter, Melinda and wife Lynne, and several other amazing supportive friends. His beloved wife, Cynthia Ann preceded him in passing in 2013.
Warren Robert grew up on his family farm in Zeandale, Kansas. The eldest of 4 siblings, his brother Bill and two sisters, Marian and Elaine, know him fondly as “Buddy” and their Big Brother. Life on the farm gave him an appreciation for family and the value of hard work. Also, a great dislike for snow.
After graduating early from high school at the age of 17, WR attended Kansas State and earned a degree in chemical engineering. He then served his country in the army until 1952. After the army, he started working with the Kansas Highway Commission which led to working with Phillips Petroleum Refinery. During this time, he met the love of his life, Cynthia Ann Moore. They married in 1955 and started raising a family. First came Mark and then Melinda. After many years in the Kansas area, Warren R was offered a job in Glendale, California and the family moved to the west coast, where they developed many new and treasured friendships.
WR was a wonderful and supportive son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Among his many qualities, the ones that stand out in the minds of those closest to him are his kindness, generosity, and love. He loved time with family and friends, fishing, and being active in his church community. He had many lifelong friends and valued every relationship. He was a patient man that instilled a solid core ethic in his children Mark Warren and Melinda Sue. We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his loving wife Cynthia and other loved ones that have passed before him. He will be greatly missed. We love you, Dad! Thanks for everything!
