Walt - leader, mentor, family man, friend, soldier, giver, the energizer bunny, warrior, first to show up, last to cast judgement, legendary, a real one
I have been delaying sharing, as there is a finality to it that seems like it can't be real. I have come to the realization that I have a responsibility to share the light that was Walter Mack, as he was truly larger than life and I am incredibly blessed to have been apart of his life for so many years. I had the opportunity to both work alongside and for Walt for over 10 years. We immediately connected and clicked on a personal level but over time, I was lucky enough to become a confidante and a friend. When I took a leap in my career and became a Managing Partner for Outback Steakhouse, there was no question that Walter was the JVP I wanted to work for. He would tell you that I supported him in many endeavors over the years, but the truth is - I needed him far more than he needed me. Under the safety blanket that was his mentorship, I found myself as a leader:
- Because he was always present & available, I wasn't afraid to take risks
- Because he was approachable, I wasn't afraid to ask questions
- Because he prioritized People, I learned it wasn't just about driving results
- Because he was damn good at what he did, I was confident
- Because he didn't take shit from anyone, I too grew fierce
When my baby brother (USMC) was deployed during the U.S. pullout in Afghanistan, a particularly emotionally charged time and very dangerous situation on the ground, I never once had to ask Walt to show up for me. I think he spent that entire week working in my restaurant, despite having a thousand other places he probably needed to be. What was understood didn't need to be explained -- a motto that describes our friendship to a tee.
Walt was so many things to so many people, with unmatched passion, contagious energy, work ethic, compassion and the highest standards in any room. I will carry his spirit in everything I do & strive to be the leader he raised.

Walter was always at our bonefish store in north canton. I was the youngest and newest of the servers there and he always made me feel welcome. Everyone always laughed at when we were standing around each other because I am 4’10. He was so loved at our store and always made everyone laugh. Even tho he was the “big boss” he always made us laugh and gave everyone support on the great job we were doing. Walter was so loved at our store. Prayers to all his family and friends. Thinking about you all during this time.
