Walt's obituary
We convene in the shadow of mortality, not to mourn but to extol the life of Walt Lamberg. In the year of 1942, a soul was born into this tumultuous world, a man of paradoxes—aloof yet affable, astute yet nurturing. Walt leaves an indelible imprint upon the tapestry of our lives, a pattern woven with the threads of his distinctive essence.
Surviving Walt is a constellation of kin: his progeny, Alan Lamberg, the beacon of his existence; his former spouse, Susan Pharoan; his sibling, Eleanor Loebner; his nephew, J. Michael; his nieces, Lesley and Heather; and the young ones, grand-nephew Ryan and grand-nieces Rebecca and Alyssa. His son Alan stands as his crowning achievement, the vessel of his wisdom, the recipient of his most cherished adage: “Get busy living or get busy dying.”
Walt’s soul strum to the rhythm of the haunting verses and melodies of his contemporary, Bob Dylan. His auditory palette was rich with the hues of folk, country, and blues, each note a reflection of his origins. His literary appetite was voracious, feasting on the narratives spun by Jewish-American author Philip Roth, and in later years, enjoying the heartfult tales of Catherine Ryan Hyde.
The television sagas that captivated Walt were as intricate as his persona. He was drawn to the cerebral and the compelling, devoutly tuning in to David Simon’s “The Wire” and Roth's “The Plot Against America.” His affections also lay with “True Detective,” “The Goldbergs,” “VEEP,” and “The Wonder Years”—each a mirror to the multifaceted man he was.
A raconteur and a bard, Walt’s legacy includes a compendium of tales chronicling his formative years and his tenure in the Army. His creative spirit birthed a collection of songs, echoing his love for the genres that shaped him, not merely as an aficionado but as a creator.
In a glass of Canadian whisky on ice, one could find the essence of Walt—timeless, classic. His singular nature and the narratives he etched into existence will endure through Alan, through his writings, and in the hearts of all who had the fortune to cross his path.
We honor the singular journey he traversed, the wisdom he imparted, and the indelible memories he bestowed upon us.
