Walter's obituary
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a beloved father, husband, brother, son, uncle, and Poppy- Walter Daniel Kerbis, who departed this world on the 19th of October, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unforgettable moments that will forever be etched in our hearts.
Poppy was a caring and gentle man, whose love for small creatures and animals is the epitome of his caring and kind nature. Many pets passed through Poppy’s loving care (with a few sneaky under-the-table treats), and many an outside cat were kept warm and safe by an inconspicuous heat lamp and a can of cat food.
The kitchen, the grill, and the smoker were Poppy’s creative outlets, where he transformed simple ingredients into delectable masterpieces and memories. His culinary skills were renowned, and he delighted in preparing sumptuous meals that brought together family and friends, neighbors and strangers alike. We can only hope to copy his favorite spaghetti sauce recipe, but it won’t taste the same without him.
Above all, Poppy treasured his family. Walter and his wife Zacklyne celebrated 49 years married together. He was an extraordinary father who nurtured, guided, and loved his children, Walter and Paul, with unwavering dedication. Walter’s most beloved legacy is that of “Poppy” to his nine grandchildren, Taylor, Abbie, Bella, Joseph, Anna Claire, Benjamin, Maggie, Gemma, and Henry. His presence brought comfort, and his wisecracks were a beacon of light in our lives. His warmth, laughter, and well-timed jokes lit up gatherings, making every moment spent together a cherished memory.
Walter is survived by his wife, Zacklyne, children Paul & Walter, siblings Richard & Rachel, and his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, in the recipes he shared, and in the compassion he extended to both people and animals.
As we bid farewell to Poppy, we find solace in the knowledge that he is now at peace, surrounded by the animals he cherished, cooking up a feast in the heavens above, and definitely cracking a joke. His legacy of love and devotion will forever be a source of inspiration to us all
May Walter rest in eternal peace, and may his memory, jokes, and recipes forever fill our hearts with warmth and love.
