What memories I have of our time in London with Walter. Makes me smile every time I think about it. And then in later years, we spent some wonderful 4th of Julys at the farm with Walter, Zack, and the boys. My love and prayers for all of you.

Walt and Zack were living on the farm in Riverton and he and I ( his brother Richard) were building a chicken coop in the barn. We had finished the walls, attached all of the chicken wire and framed the door opening. We found some old 2x 6’s and with a great deal of difficulty cut them to length and width to make the door itself. And of course we were drinking beer while we did this. We laid our lumber out on the floor and because the wood was very old, it took a great deal of effort to nail the pieces together. Walter stood back to admire our handy work and after a minute he said we have a problem. We had built the frame around a main support pole for the second floor of the barn. Because of the beers, both of us stood there and actually tried to figure out how to not have to take the door apart. Eventually we took it apart and reassembled it, making sure we didn’t build it around anything. We told our father about this and he got a big laugh out of it. He would retell this story about how his 2 college graduate sons built a door around a support pole. Fortunately we both became accomplished carpenters, as was our father and we both passed the skill on to our children. I have 2 daughters who have become quite handy around the house.
