Walter's obituary

Walter Lee Hill Sr. was born November 19, 1943 In Philadelphia PA . The son of the late Harry & Edith Hill. Wallter was the oldest son out of 13 children. He departed this life after putting up a fight, on Sunday April 19, 2020. Walter moved to New York and attended JHS 258, then Boys high school. Walter was a member of Tabernacle Church Of God, and later joined Upper Room Baptist Church.

Walter worked at Bellevue hospital in food services, for some years. He later left the hospital to pursue a career at tabernacle day care, under the late Reverend Grace Havenwaller as a cook, after 34 years of service he retired as the head cook / kitchen manager.

In 1968 Walter met the love of his life, Delores. He courted her for 14 years, On February 13, 1982 they walked down the aisle. Walter who was fondly called Daddy, Big Daddy, Walt, PaPa, pop, and Grandpa by all. He was loved clearly for his kindness and patient spirit. He was also. a Great fisherman. Pops had a kind heart, he always seemed to understand and had a listening ear for all. Everyone loved his famous “ Cole Slaw” and him doing his thing on the grill. Those that remember he was a great singer. Daddy always had special nicknames for everybody and he never forgot them.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. We were all blessed to have him in our lives, as now he’s gone home to be with the love of his life. Proceeding him in his death, the love of his life his wife, Delores Hill, his sister Mary and his brothers Harry & Moses.

He leaves behind 10 children Reginald, Monay, Tracy, Crystal, Leslie, James, Gracelyn, Terrizena, Juanita,and Walter Jr. 7 sisters, Loretta, Rosetta, Virgie, Patricia, Lina, Brenda, Antonia, and 1 brother James. 26 grandchildren, 11 great grands. 4 daughter inlaws, Priscilla, Crystal, Mattaniah, and Shakeia. 3 special daughters Leadys, Ashley, and Melinda. 1 special son Maurice. A host of nieces, nephews, close friends. and also a host of special friends from Chauncey street.
