Walter's obituary

It is with profound sadness and much love that the family of Walter “Dennis” Grant announces his passing on February 17, 2021 at the age of 66. Our beloved brother, uncle, and friend was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 6, 1954 to the late Walter Grant and Flora Louise (Hubbard) Grant.

Dennis graduated from Canarsie High School in 1973. He joined the US Army in 1974 where he served in the 101st Division Airborne Paratroopers until 1978. Soon after his time in the military, Dennis began his 30-year career in the Stations Department with the New York City Transit Authority until he retired in 2013. Through the many colleagues that knew and loved Dennis, he also acquired life-long friends.

Shortly after retirement, reaping the fruits of his labor, Dennis purchased his dream home in Cape May, New Jersey. In this home is where Dennis was able to enjoy more time with his family and relax. He always enjoyed cooking outdoors, this was a lifelong favorite for Dennis. Now he could cook his fish, steaks and anything else he could fit on the grills, all day every day.

Early in life Dennis found a passion for fishing and its rituals, realizing the mystery of the small part we play in the grand scheme of life. He was always acknowledging a power greater than himself. And as his faith would have it, he found peace in the belief that the next cast would be a fish that would make it to the line and into the boat. If the day did not go well, Dennis was optimistic that the next day would be better. Many early mornings in a boat, he practiced his faith without fear.

Left to cherish many fond memories are his domestic partner Michelle Nelson, brother Gregory (Lisa), sister Vanessa, brother Shannon (Roxane), Joanne (Richardson) Grant, a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
