Walter "Big Walt" Cooper, age 65, passed away on April 23, 2024 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer Born on December 16, 1958, He brought immense joy to those around him.
Walter's journey touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. Walter was born in Florence, SC to Walter Cooper Sr and Frances Jones.
He attended Webster Elementary and Murray Middle School of St. Augustine. He was a concrete finisher and painter. He had many roots in this small town, he helped build many popular structures such as the 312 bridge and Pedro Menendez High School. He was big on family, spoke his mind no one else. He loved to play cards whether it was tunk, spades or poker you could find him wherever there were cards. His big personality made him loved by many, if you were from St. Augustine you knew Walter Jones, he was one of those Jones boys. He had a different nickname from each loved one. His fun, witty humor will forever be missed but not forgotten.
He leaves behind his mother Francis Jones Williams; his three children Walter Cooper lll (Djana), Whitney (DeVante) Hackney, Lavadus (Karen) Davis; his siblings Ben, Charles, Carleatha, Trencess, Lawrence, Curtis, Jeremiah, and Al; his now wife Melanie Cooper; ex-wife and children's mother Mary Cooper; his grandchildren Lavadus Jr., Charles Jr, Mason, Kenwuan Jr, DeVante Jr and Nei'Lani; step-grands Melissa, Kylie, Varun, Sage, Arai, Hale, Elora, Jayana, Andre, Jimi, Scarlet and Edward. Along with many nieces, nephews and bonus loved ones.
