Walter's obituary
Walter Colbert, 76, of Tabernacle, NJ, passed away on January 23, 2023 after a difficult battle with cancer.
Walter was born on July 29, 1946 in Regensburg, Germany but moved to the US when he was a little boy. He moved to the bustling neighborhood of Hunts Point in the Bronx, N.Y. His parents were Sandra and Marion Colbert. Sandra worked hard while raising Walter. Marion owned a couple of French Sea Food restaurants in NYC.
Walter was a proud veteran who served in the Navy in Vietnam. His father had him signed up to the Navy when he was only 17 to keep him out of trouble.
In 1994, he met Veldene at the country western bar the Yellow Rose in Manville N.J. Walter and Veldene went on to have 2 kids, Chase and Cherie. Walter also had two step daughters Deena and Valene from Veldene's first marriage. They lived in Colts Neck, N.J. for a few years and eventually moved to Tabernacle, N.J. in 2003.
Walter loved planting and gardening, tinkering around with cars, riding on his tractor and dabbled in bee keeping for a bit. He raised the most beautiful crops of Gladiolus flowers, and they were as colorful as his cheerful personality. He enjoyed working back in the blueberry field with his buddy Harry and loved making his blueberry preserves which he was very proud of. Walter had a warm and friendly personality. He loved to tell silly jokes and had an infectious laugh. Walter loved his family very much. Walter always used to say "Not to worry".
He is survived by wife Veldene Colbert, son Chase Colbert, daughter Cherie Colbert, step-daughter Deena Vasquez and her life partner Brian Allen, and step-daughter Valene Benstead and her husband Jason Benstead.
Services will be held on February 9, 2023 at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery.
Celebration of Life / Memorial will be held on February 11th, 2023 at 5pm
