Vonnie's obituary
Friday, February 25, 2022, Mrs. Vonnie K Cross, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, fell asleep in death, at the age of 79.
Vonnie was born December 9, 1942 in Ionia, Michigan to Thomas and Velma Barrett.
Vonnie was a babysitter for many years, ironed clothes, supervised for the Battle Creek Shopper, worked for Dr. Daniel Smith D.D.S, and retired from the State of Michigan, Kalamazoo Psychiatric hospital.
Vonnie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 15, 1952. She worked as a volunteer for many years with the Regional Building Committee, serving hundreds of people, including in the disaster relief in Gulfport, Miss. and New Orleans, La. She loved her RBC family dearly and had tons of fun with every one of them. She loved teaching people the Bible and assisted many people in coming to know Jehovah God and his promises. She was a very caring, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved listening and dancing to live music, with the love of her life, Tom. Vonnie's favorite hobby was crocheting, making blankets for her family and every new baby coming along. And over the years she came to love watching the Tigers, Pistons and Lions, with the love of her life. She loved her family dearly and was very proud of each one of them.
Vonnie was preceded in death by both parents, step-father Paul, husband of 57 years Thomas, son Jeff, sister Gloria Phillips and brothers William Barrett and Dean Ward. She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Thomas (Kimona), daughters, Connie (Nemiah) and Jennifer (Richard); grandchildren, Dana, Coiya, and Jermaine; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Mia, Jacob, Cidney, Donavan, and Jaxon, sisters Shirley and Deborah, as well as a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends.
