Vladimir's obituary
Pure, simple living with abundant joy and affection for people and his family was in his essence. His ability to disregard setbacks and relentlessly pursue his intuition made him an unique companion on this earth.
Born in the city of Gabrovo, Bulgaria, he grew up in a modest home. His household was steered through the uncertainty of those times by the steady hand of his grandmother, Irina, a bookstore owner. His father was an accountant and his mother worked the pots and pans like few people did in the largest and most centrally located house in this small town in the Balkan Mountains. As it is always the case in towns of such size, the door of their home was always open to all.
Surrounded by friends, cousins, and his older brother, the childhood of my father was marked by joy. He happily recounted stories full of energetic play, and fair amount of mischief, as he and his friends scoured Gabrovo in search of adventures. He graduated high school in 1970 and enrolled in the city college of technology and engineering. Following graduation he embarked on practical specializations in other Eastern European countries. During one of them in the Russian city of Kazan he met my mother, Vanya. He moved to Sofia when they married in 1977 and the same year their son and my older brother, Vasil, was born.
My father worked tirelessly to provide for our family. He often held a regular job along with several others, in order to make our needs were met. Work was abundant during these times in Bulgaria, yet salaries fixed to equal amounts for everyone employed, so my father had to work multiple jobs as he wanted distinguish himself and make a difference for his family.
In 1983 when I was born, we were renting a small place in downtown Sofia. At the time, my father worked as an engineer during the day, drove a taxi in the evenings and worked at various sports events at the city's stadium on weekends. Immersed in work, he enjoyed greatly interacting with different people, hearing their life stories and sharing his own.
