Vincent's obituary

Vincent J. Poettgen, 67, of Martinez California passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 in Walnut Creek California.

Vince was born in Gary, Indiana to Mary and Vincent Poettgen on March 19, 1954.

He moved with his family to Orinda, California in 1959. He attended Santa Maria Elementary and De La Salle High School. He worked in the automotive industry and made his career as service manager for over 30 years.

Vince is survived by his sister, Patricia Poettgen-Ventura (Manuel), brother, Gregory Poettgen, (Vivian), nieces, Liliana Ventura-Mitchell (Keith) and Valerie Poettgen Bishop (Matthew). He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Poettgen and father Vincent H. Poettgen.

Vince was employed for over thirty years at local auto shops and dealerships as a mechanic and eventually as a service manager. His strong work ethic and high standards for customer service satisfaction resulted in numerous awards and certificates of achievement. He was proud to represent his fellow union employees as a shop steward and kept many friends after his professional career ended.

Vince was a sports enthusiast and loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A’s, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and the Golden State Warriors.

In later years, Vince became interested in the art of baking and was proud to share the fruits of his labor, especially carrying on traditional family recipes.

He was a spiritual person who was exploring and trying to stretch himself to find balance. His spiritual journey and hobby of baking fed both body and spirit.

Vince had a generous nature and was always there for family, friends and in fact anyone who needed his help. He had a sharp, dry wit and found humor in most things, especially politics.

Vince will be sorely missed and always remembered for the sweet gentle man he was. May his memory always be a blessing.

A memorial service will be held privately with family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to consider donating to local food banks and Covid relief funds.
