Vicki's obituary
It would be wrong to say that Vicki lost her battle with COPD because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she remained upbeat and positive. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong, literally and spiritually. Vicki carried two oxygen tanks and her coffee to church every Sunday. Despite her breathing limitations, she never hesitated to get on the floor and wrestle with her grandson. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like. There was no quit in Vicki, especially when she had coupons to use at CVS or a date with her grandson, Luca.
She always said the last 5 years were the best years of her life. Vicki had retired from her civil service job in Fort Campbell, KY and moved to Massachusetts to be closer to her daughter and grandson. She spent much of her time shopping at Savers, studying God’s word, dining out (and boy did she love to eat), and building relationships with her friends as well as the cashiers, employees, servers and anyone else she came in contact with. She was incredibly thoughtful, kind and hilarious. She always had a quick, witty comment and made others smile and laugh often.
Vicki is survived by her favorite daughter, Christy Parziale and beloved grandson, Luca Parziale; her son, Michael Manzella, daughter in-law, Kali Manzella and their two children, Kendall and Mason Manzella; her brother, Bob Gilbertson and his wife, Renee; her brother, Don Gilbertson, and his wife Tina; three nephews, Eric Gilbertson, Brent Gilbertson and Brandon Gilbertson; three nieces, Brittnee Keyes, Andrea Baune, and Rebecca Brown as well as their spouses and children; as well as 12 pounds of butter, 57 purple pens, 1,203 unopened emails and a 3 foot stack of explanation of benefits.
Vicki will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her. Her Celebration of Life will be on August 8, 2021 at New Life Church (317 Westwood Avenue, East Longmeadow, MA) at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, Vicki would want you to breathe deeply, love fiercely and share the love of Jesus with all. In her words, “Jesus loves you and so do I!”
